UE shows up when LG’s washer detects an unbalanced load during spin. On most models the machine tries to redistribute the load and add water automatically, up to three attempts, before it needs any help. If the cycle stays paused with UE on the display, the load needs to be rearranged by hand.

First checks
- If the cycle paused with UE on screen, open the door and rearrange the load so weight is spread evenly around the drum.
- Add one or two similar items if the load is small. A single heavy item spinning alone is the most common cause.
- Check that all four feet are on the floor and the washer doesn't rock when pushed at a corner.
Step-by-step diagnosis
- Open the door and redistribute the load by hand, spreading it evenly around the drum rather than leaving it piled on one side.
- If you are washing one heavy item on its own, add a couple of similar items. A single wet towel or a pair of jeans cannot balance itself, and this is the most common trigger by a distance.
- Close the door and restart the spin. LG will attempt to rebalance up to three times before it gives up and shows the code.
- If UE keeps appearing, push each corner of the machine in turn. Any rock means a foot is not carrying weight.
- Set a spirit level on top, front to back and side to side, and adjust the feet until it reads true and the cabinet is solid.
- Tighten the lock nuts on the feet once level. Feet that back off over time bring the problem straight back.

- Assuming UE means a broken part. It's rebalancing logic working as designed; a repeat UE on a normal-sized, mixed load points to leveling, not a defect.
- Restarting the spin cycle again and again without opening the door to redistribute the load first.
- Ignoring a UE that keeps coming back on normal, mixed loads — that pattern points to leveling or worn feet, not bad luck.
When to stop
- UE appears on well-distributed, normal-sized loads with the machine level and solid.
- The drum knocks against the cabinet during spin, or there is play when you lift it by hand, which points at the suspension or the bearings.
