- Pull the washer out and check the drain hose for kinks or crushing.
- Confirm the drain hose isn't pushed too far into the standpipe, creating a siphon.
- Listen during the drain cycle for a humming pump that isn't moving water, that points to a clog rather than a dead pump.
What not to do
- Ordering a replacement drain pump before cleaning the filter, a clogged filter is the more common cause by far.
- Forcing the filter cap if it won't turn, this can crack the housing; let residual water drain first.
