Samsung Dryer Error Code dE (Door Error)

dE means the dryer doesn’t detect the door as fully closed, usually something is in the way rather than a broken switch.

Meaning

dE appears when the dryer’s door switch doesn’t register the door as closed. Most of the time something, lint, a stray sock, is caught in the door opening rather than the switch itself being faulty.

The information provided here is a diagnostic aid and does not replace the intervention of a qualified professional.

Possible causes

No cause is certain until it has been checked on the appliance.

Tools needed

First checks

Step-by-step diagnosis

  1. Open the door fully and run a finger around the opening and the strike area, clearing lint and any caught fabric.
  2. Wipe the gasket and the latch tongue. A film of softener residue is enough to stop a latch seating.
  3. Close the door slowly until you hear the click. No click means the latch never engaged.
  4. With the door shut, try to move it. More than a millimetre or two of play points at a misaligned strike plate rather than a dead switch.
  5. Unplug for 60 seconds, then start a fresh cycle.
  6. If dE appears mid-cycle rather than at start, watch whether it lines up with the drum reversing. Vibration that shakes the latch loose is a hinge or levelling issue.

When to call a professional

If the simple checks turned up nothing, if the repair involves electricity, gas, or the sealed refrigerant system, or if you have any doubt at all: stop there and hand the appliance over to a qualified technician.
