Steps
- Move the food into a cooler box.
- Unplug the freezer and prop the door open.
- Lay towels on the floor and place a pot of hot water inside to speed up the melt.
- Pull off the ice sheets by hand as they loosen.
- Dry the interior, plug it back in, and wait for it to reach temperature before restocking.
Warnings
- Never use a knife, screwdriver, or hair dryer inside the freezer — you risk puncturing the refrigerant circuit.
Maintenance tips
- Check the door seal after defrosting — a worn seal will bring the frost back within weeks.
