E2 appears on Frigidaire’s top-load washers when the water isn’t clearing out fast enough during the drain step. The washer won’t move on to spin with water still in the tub, since spinning against standing water can unbalance the drum. Frigidaire’s own troubleshooting points almost entirely at the drain hose and installation rather than the pump.
Frigidaire Washer Error Code E2 (Won’t Drain / Long Drain)
E2 means the washer’s water is taking too long to drain, almost always a kinked or clogged drain hose.
Meaning
Possible causes
No cause is certain until it has been checked on the appliance.
- Very likely Kinked drain hose somewhere along its run
- Likely Clogged drain hose from lint or debris buildup
- Likely Standpipe installed at the wrong height, common after a recent install or move
- Possible Lid not fully closed, stopping the drain-spin sequence from starting
First checks
- Trace the drain hose from the washer to the standpipe and straighten out any kinks.
- Disconnect the drain hose and check for clogs, then run water through it to confirm it flows freely.
- Check the standpipe height against Frigidaire's install spec if the washer was recently installed or moved.
- Close the lid fully and press Start/Pause. The washer won't spin with the lid open.
What not to do
- Restarting the cycle repeatedly without checking the hose first. That just repeats the same timeout.
- Assuming the pump has failed before checking the hose. A kinked or clogged hose causes this far more often than a failed pump.
An error code varies by brand
The same code can have a different meaning depending on the brand and model. Always check your appliance's manual before acting.
