A simple monthly maintenance routine prevents poor cleaning, odors, and leaks. No tools are needed for the basics.
How to Maintain a Dishwasher
Filters, spray arms, and gaskets: three monthly checks for spotless dishes.
Steps
- Remove the lower rack and unscrew the filter at the bottom of the tub.
- Rinse the filter under hot water with a soft brush.
- Unclip the spray arms and clear each nozzle with a toothpick.
- Wipe the door gasket, including the folds, with a vinegar-dampened cloth.
- Run a hot empty cycle with a cup of white vinegar.
Warnings
- Don't use an abrasive scrubber on the door gasket.
Maintenance tips
- Refill the rinse aid salt as soon as the indicator light comes on, even with 'all-in-one' tablets.
