First checks

Shut off water and power before doing anything.
Open the drain filter door at the bottom front and clean it, with a pan ready for residual water.
Check that the drain hose isn't kinked or blocked.

Step-by-step diagnosis

Cut the power. Get a shallow tray and towels ready, because several litres are still sitting in the tub.
Open the flap at the bottom front and unscrew the filter cap slowly, in stages, letting the water out without flooding the floor.
Take the filter out and clear it: lint, coins, hairpins. Rinse it under hot water.
Put a finger into the filter housing and turn the impeller. It should spin freely with no stiff spot.
Disconnect the drain hose and flush it through. Check where it joins the standpipe or sink trap too, since congealed grease collects at that joint.
Refit the filter tightly, then run a rinse and spin while watching for leaks around the flap.

What not to do

Running cycles repeatedly without first draining and cleaning the filter.
Closing the filter housing back up without checking for a coin, sock, or bra underwire caught inside — a common reason FP returns within a few loads.

When to stop

The impeller will not turn freely, or the pump stays silent once the filter is clean.
Hose and trap are clear but the water still will not go down, which makes it the household drain rather than the washer.
