Samsung Washer Error Code DE (Door Error)

DE means the washer doesn’t detect the door as closed and locked. Samsung’s fix starts with the latch, not the lock mechanism.

Meaning

DE (also shown as dE1, dE2, dC, dL, FL, or LO depending on the model) means the washer isn’t detecting the door as fully closed and latched. It can appear even between cycles if Child Lock is on and there’s still water in the tub.

Possible causes

No cause is certain until it has been checked on the appliance.

Tools needed

First checks

Step-by-step diagnosis

  1. Open the door fully and pull the seal back on itself all the way round. A bra strap or a sock in that fold holds the door open by less than a millimetre, which is enough.
  2. Wipe the latch and the strike plate.
  3. Close the door firmly until it clicks once, cleanly.
  4. If DE shows when no cycle is running, check Child Lock. Samsung drains the tub automatically when the door stays open, or Child Lock stays on, for more than 30 seconds in that state, and that behaviour gets mistaken for a fault.
  5. Look at the latch and hinge for cracks or looseness.
  6. Start a rinse and watch the lock engage in the first moments of the cycle.

An error code varies by brand

The same code can have a different meaning depending on the brand and model. Always check your appliance's manual before acting.

When to call a professional

If the simple checks turned up nothing, if the repair involves electricity, gas, or the sealed refrigerant system, or if you have any doubt at all: stop there and hand the appliance over to a qualified technician.
