- If DE appears when the washer isn't running a cycle, check whether Child Lock is on. Samsung's washers drain the tub automatically if the door stays open, or Child Lock stays on, for more than 30 seconds in that state.
- Inspect the latch and hinge area for visible cracks or looseness.
Step-by-step diagnosis
- Open the door fully and pull the seal back on itself all the way round. A bra strap or a sock in that fold holds the door open by less than a millimetre, which is enough.
- Wipe the latch and the strike plate.
- Close the door firmly until it clicks once, cleanly.
- If DE shows when no cycle is running, check Child Lock. Samsung drains the tub automatically when the door stays open, or Child Lock stays on, for more than 30 seconds in that state, and that behaviour gets mistaken for a fault.
- Look at the latch and hinge for cracks or looseness.
- Start a rinse and watch the lock engage in the first moments of the cycle.
What not to do
- Forcing the door shut against resistance. If something is caught in the seal, forcing it can damage the gasket.
- Assuming the lock mechanism has failed before checking for trapped fabric, which is the more common cause.
When to stop
- The seal is clear, the door clicks shut, and DE still appears.
- The latch is cracked or the door has dropped on its hinge.
