DE (also shown as dE1, dE2, dC, dL, FL, or LO depending on the model) means the washer isn’t detecting the door as fully closed and latched. It can appear even between cycles if Child Lock is on and there’s still water in the tub.
Samsung Washer Error Code DE (Door Error)
DE means the washer doesn’t detect the door as closed and locked. Samsung’s fix starts with the latch, not the lock mechanism.
Meaning
Possible causes
No cause is certain until it has been checked on the appliance.
- Very likely Laundry, a strap, or fabric caught in the door seal, preventing a full latch
- Likely Door not pushed fully closed before starting the cycle
- Possible Child Lock enabled with water still in the tub between cycles (not a fault)
- Rare Damaged door latch or hinge
First checks
- Open the door fully, check the entire seal for trapped clothing, straps, or fabric, then close it firmly until it clicks.
- If DE appears when the washer isn't running a cycle, check whether Child Lock is on. Samsung's washers drain the tub automatically if the door stays open, or Child Lock stays on, for more than 30 seconds in that state.
- Inspect the latch and hinge area for visible cracks or looseness.
What not to do
- Forcing the door shut against resistance. If something is caught in the seal, forcing it can damage the gasket.
- Assuming the lock mechanism has failed before checking for trapped fabric, which is the more common cause.
An error code varies by brand
The same code can have a different meaning depending on the brand and model. Always check your appliance's manual before acting.
