First checks
- Confirm both hot and cold supply taps are fully open, not just cracked.
- Check the supply hoses for kinks or pinches along their full length.
- Turn off the water, disconnect the hoses at the washer, and inspect the small mesh filters inside each inlet valve port for sediment.
- Test water pressure at another tap in the house if the checks above come back clean.
Step-by-step diagnosis
- Open both taps fully. Turned most of the way is not the same as open, and the flow sensor notices the difference.
- Run each hose through your hand looking for a kink, especially the tight bend behind the machine.
- Close both taps, put the bucket down, and disconnect the hoses at the washer.
- Pull the mesh screen out of each inlet port with pliers, gently. These screens catch sediment and slowly starve the fill over months, so they are the usual find on an older installation.
- Brush the screens clean under running water and refit them the way they came out.
- Reconnect, open the taps slowly, and run a rinse to watch water arrive.
- If the code stands, test another tap nearby. LG needs roughly 14.5 psi, and a house with low pressure will show IE no matter how clean the machine is.
What not to do
- Skipping the inlet filter screens. They sit inside the valve port, not the hose itself, so a clogged one looks identical to a closed tap from the outside.
- Assuming full pressure at the tap rules out the machine itself — a stuck-closed inlet valve solenoid can produce the exact same IE code from inside the washer.
- Restarting the cycle repeatedly without checking the filters first, which just repeats the same fill timeout.
When to stop
- Taps open, hoses straight, screens clean, and IE still shows.
- Household pressure is genuinely low, which is a plumbing problem rather than a washer fault.
