LG Washer Error Code OE (Drain Error)

OE means the washer isn’t draining in time. LG’s own fix starts with the drain hose and filter, not the pump.

Meaning

OE is LG’s drain-fault code: the washer didn’t finish draining within its expected window. LG’s support material treats a kinked or clogged drain hose and a clogged drain filter as the first two things to check, well ahead of the drain pump itself. The code alone doesn’t confirm a mechanical failure.

Possible causes

No cause is certain until it has been checked on the appliance.

Tools needed

First checks

Step-by-step diagnosis

  1. Open the access panel at the bottom front. Behind it are the pump filter and a short drain tube.
  2. Put a shallow tray down and use the drain tube first. There is more water in there than the tray you first reach for will hold, so empty it in stages.
  3. Unscrew the filter and clear it. Coins, hairpins, and pet hair are what usually turn up.
  4. Reach into the filter housing and turn the impeller with a fingertip. It should spin freely.
  5. Follow the drain hose to the standpipe, checking for kinks and crushed sections. If the washer sits in a garage or an unheated utility room in winter, check for ice in the hose before anything else, since a frozen hose gives exactly this code.
  6. Check the drain height against the manual. Above roughly 96 inches, LG machines raise OE even with everything clear.
  7. Refit the filter, making sure it seats and screws in fully, then run a rinse and spin.

When to call a professional

If the simple checks turned up nothing, if the repair involves electricity, gas, or the sealed refrigerant system, or if you have any doubt at all: stop there and hand the appliance over to a qualified technician.
