Meaning

F22 appears when the power board can no longer communicate properly with the motor. It’s often a simple connection issue rather than a motor failure.

The information provided here is a diagnostic aid and does not replace the intervention of a qualified professional.

Possible causes

No cause is certain until it has been checked on the appliance.

Tools needed

First checks

Step-by-step diagnosis

  1. Unplug the washer for a full ten minutes. Pressing Off is not the same thing, the board has to lose power.
  2. Plug back in and run a short cycle. An F22 caused by an electrical glitch does not come back.
  3. If it does return, unplug again and take off the rear panel.
  4. Work through the connectors between the power board and the motor one at a time: unplug, check for corrosion, push back until they click.
  5. Follow the harness along its length looking for a rub point against the chassis. That is where insulation wears through.
  6. On a brushed motor, check the brush length. Worn down to the spring, they cause intermittent dropouts that look exactly like a communication fault.
